If you are looking for digital resources to use in first grade, then you have come to the right place! I’m going to share 5 of my favorite digital resources that can be used this school year. Depending on the activity, these can be used in Google Slides or Boom Learning.
1. Phonics Activities
These digital phonics activities are a fun and easy way for students to practice their phonics skills. Students drag the word to the matching picture or vice versa. You can assign these through Google Classroom after teaching the phonics skill. First graders will love and enjoy this simple matching game. These are also a great addition to centers or computer time in the classroom.
2. Spiral Math Journals
These spiral math journals are actually the same as the print version, but students can answer through Google Slides by typing in their answers. Spiraling math content is important because students need constant repetition and exposure to their math skills so that they can become more confident and master what they are learning. And easy way to do so is with spiral math journals and when you are teaching virtually this year, you can use the digital version. The print version is included as well so that when you return to the classroom, you can still use them!
3. Phonics Match Boom Cards
Boom Cards are an easy way to assess students, especially if you are doing distance learning this year. With these Phonics Match Boom Cards, students drag the word to the matching picture and the Boom Learning platform will let them know right away if they are correct. It’s a great tool to assess students’ knowledge of phonics skills! Plus, this is a growing bundle so many phonics skills will be included!
4. Sight Word Worksheets
Just like the spiral math journals, these are also available for print or digital. If you are wanting your students to continue practicing sight words at home, they can practice with these! They are also practicing beginning sounds with these too. Students type in the beginning letter under the picture to reveal a sight word. They then type it in different ways as well and write the sentence.
5. Reading Comprehension Boom Cards
You can use these Boom Cards with reading comprehension skills as well! So far, we have Non-Fiction text features and Main Character & Character Traits, but there will be more to help you assess your students with their reading comprehension skills. With the non-fiction set, students are clicking on the non-fiction text feature. With the Main Character set, students are answering a variety of questions to determine if they know the main character and inside and outside traits. For more info on Boom Cards, click here.
