Description
If you have first graders that are nervous about going into second grade, then conducting end of year interviews is the perfect activity for them!
Students nervous about leaving you? Nervous about what’s next?
Every school year, I have students sad and nervous to leave first grade. Change can be hard for all of us, especially when we don’t know what to expect! Finding a second grade class to interview is a great solution!
Build Student Confidence.
Students first practice interviewing skills with their classmates by creating a mind map of thoughts they’re having about a friend in their class. Then, they think of questions to ask their friend. To practice, there’s also a reader’s theater for students to practice their interviewing and presentation skills. After, they interview their first grade friend and then write a story about what they learned.
Students repeat the process, but with thoughts and worries they have about second grade. Partner up with a second grade class so that they interview their second grade friend.
Students will learn how to interview by using the appropriate interview interactions (voice, greeting, posture, and eye contact). They will read a reader’s theater script for practice. They will practice interviewing a friend in their class first and then interview a second grader to learn about what to expect in second grade.
