It’s time to talk about launching reader’s workshop for the second week! Follow these three lesson plans to set your class up for success!
If you missed the first week, make sure to go back and read it here.
Lesson#1: Independent Reading Expectations
Lesson #2: Just Right Books
Students need to know how to pick just right books in order to feel successful. It’s important for them to know their feelings when they find a just right book versus a not just right book. Students will feel happy and confident with a just right book. However, with a book that is not just right, they will feel frustrated and unhappy.
Lesson #3: How To Pick A Spot
Picking a spot to read is probably one of the best parts of reader’s workshop! Students love to pick a new spot to sit. You don’t have to buy new bean bags or pillows (but certainly can if you wish!) for students to be excited about their spot. Some of my students’ favorite spots were just laying on the rug, sitting under a desk, or sitting in the doorway. They enjoy the change of scenery while they read!
