Surprise, surprise. I’m late to a party. Actually, I’m not normally a late person, but I am a person who is ridiculously tired on a Friday night. I had every intention of posting last night, but then I sat on the couch which turned to laying on the couch which turned on passing out on the couch by 8:00. We have started watching Parks and Rec on Netflix, which I find super funny and I absolutely love Amy Poehler, but it couldn’t even keep me awake.
Sad day.
So, I’m linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for the Five for Friday linky.
Two weeks in a row baby!
We got a Smart TV this past Sunday. I had no idea, but I guess the biggest sale for tvs during the whole year is Super Bowl week. I really thought it was the Black Friday sale, but I guess I’m wrong! Anyway, Dear Boyfriend really wanted a new tv for our living room, so we got one. Here he is trying to set it up last Sunday. It was a struggle that lasted quite a few hours trying to get the soundbar to play the sound. I don’t know. This tv is smarter than I am. That’s all I know.
Anyway, it can play Netflix so I’m in love.
Dear Boyfriend also attempted to teach me to play Chess. He’s obsessed. Plays on his tablet all the freaking time. Me? I’m cool with watching Netflix, cruising on Pinterest, watching the million shows I dvr’ed. That sort of thing.
The attempt to teach me was the saddest thing ever. I tried. I failed. Moving right along…
We started teaching main idea- sorry, main topic- this week. Common Core really has me messed up on that one. That glare is just downright awful on that picture. That’s just embarrassing- I’m sorry to hurt your eyes like that. Normally, to start main topic, I bring in a bag with similar things tied around one main idea. Those are the details of the main idea. The kids then have to figure out the main idea of the bag. It’s always a really big hit. This was not my original idea. I wish I could claim it and I wish I could say where I got the idea so I could give the proper person credit, but I can’t remember. Anyway, the kids also bring in their own main idea bags throughout the week.
We also started our new math journals off with a bang.
Place Value has been a little difficult for our class, but the journal has really helped. They really loved Day 5 with the cut/paste activities.
We use our math journals at the beginning of math every day to review what we learned the day before. It really helps review the day before to move on to the new information we are learning that day. If you want to take a look at our math journal, you can find them by clicking on the picture:
Lastly, has anyone seen this picture floating around? I saw it on Facebook and immediately screenshotted it and sent it to my teacher friends. Every time I look at it, it brings me pure joy.
I wish I had that little nugget in my class.
Have a lovely weekend!

That picture of the mullet kid is PRICELESS! Love it. I also love the idea of math journaling the concept taught the day before. It's definitely a good idea to review with the little ones before going onto a new concept!

Alisha- LOVE your blog name. I almost came up with a name like it for my own blog a few months back and then noticed it would compete with yours. Oh, and your blog design is too perfect! The circles… in calming tones 🙂 LOVE!

Casey- Thank you so much! It's kind of funny that I came up with that name because quite honestly, wiggly teeth CREEP me out. I worry for the day I have kids and they have their first wiggly, loose teeth… Eek! Just thinking about it gives me heebie jeebies! I will have to visit your blog 🙂 Thanks for visiting mine!
