I am so excited to introduce and share with you “The Never Starting Tales”, brought to you by the makers of OFF!® Repellents. “The Never Starting Tales” is a collection of reinterpreted story tales and inspires families to spend more time outdoors. Think of all your favorite fairytale characters. All of their stories began outdoors. Imagine if they never went outdoors and how their story would change!
As I’m writing this, schools across the country are doing distance learning due to Covid-19. This website is a great tool for at-home learning, as well as in school learning.
Comparing and Contrasting Setting
A great lesson to teach with “The Never Starting Tales” is comparing and contrasting setting and how the setting affects the story. In this example below, we read the original story of The Three Little Pigs and then we watched “The Never Starting Tales” version of The Three Little Pigs. After, we compared the setting of the two different variations of the story and discussed how the setting affected what happened in the story. You can extend this lesson to compare and contrast their own experiences. Encourage your child to think about what they do in their home and in their backyard and to create a venn diagram to compare and contrast their actions and thoughts. How does the change of atmosphere change their actions? How does it change their thoughts?
Journal In Your Backyard
Encourage your children to head to their backyard. Have them journal about what they do in their backyard and what their thoughts are. Then, have them journal inside their house later in the day. How are their thoughts different? How were their experiences different? This is a great connection to “The Never Starting Tales” and how the characters experienced different adventures by staying indoors.
Influence Students To Create Adventures
Did you know that this generation of children are going outside 50% less than the previous generation? Thinking of all the things we have to do inside now, I can see why. It’s important to teach our children that by playing on a tablet can make us miss out on fun, important things outdoors. It’s important for us to get our students and children outside in their backyard as much as we can! When they venture in their backyard, they activate their senses, develop curiosity, and become more observant. These stories from “The Never Starting Tales” will teach them how we miss out when we choose to stay indoors.
