Apple Day In First Grade

Apple Day is such a fun, fall-festive activity that is always a hit in first grade. It’s so simple to integrate reading, writing, and science into the day. The kids have fun and are learning. Talk about a win-win!

This particular Apple Day was on a half day, so my school released students 3 hours early. We didn’t have too much time to get in all our activities, but I still wanted to share what we did!

Johnny Appleseed YouTube Video

We watched a Johnny Appleseed video you can find here. They really liked it. It had a lot of really good information too. Plus, it was the perfect video to have going while I was prepping the apples.

Apple Taste Testing

You can’t have Apple Day without eating apples! This is the best part! I cut red, green, and yellow apples with my apple cutter. Each student got a piece of each color apple. Afterwards, we graphed our favorites.

Homemade Applesauce

I guess you could call this “school-made” applesauce, rather than homemade applesauce 🙂 After tasting it, we graphed whether we liked it or not. Apple Books

Of course, we added some books about apples into our learning as well! I think it’s important to have fiction and non-fiction books throughout the day so students can learn about apples and also be entertained through their reading!
